“Awareness”: Seeming, Being and Becoming
While my workshops each have a theme, I’m always guided by the participants’ questions and needs. Last year in several of the workshops teachers’questions illuminated the prevalent tendency to define ourselves by what we do (I teach or I am the teacher) rather than who we are in the moment we teach. Distinguishing between the two tendencies while teaching changes the character of a lesson. For the student, learning takes place in a moment of insight about what might be available to learn rather than what the teacher necessarily wants them to learn.
Likewise, teaching and learning from who you are in the moment of teaching provides for both teacher and student the experience of one’s potential, rather than a demonstration of what should be potential.
This year I would like to continue to explore how you might bring to your teaching who you are, distinct from any other teacher, and who your pupil might be, distinct from any other pupil.
